Best Practices

STEK-US recommends hand-washing vehicles protected with PPF. If using a high-pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 36″ away and avoid spraying directly on the edges of the PPF. Test any wax or aftermarket sealant before applying it to the film. Extremely hydrophobic PPF topcoats, such as HYDROphobe® on DYNOshield®, may interfere with the application of wax or other coatings. Avoid using pigmented or abrasive waxes, or those containing naphtha or kerosene. Do not use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals on the film. Remove contaminants (bird droppings, tar, bugs) as soon as possible to prevent staining or damage. Stubborn stains can be removed with isopropyl alcohol — but avoid using it under direct sunlight or when the film is hot.

STEK-US top-coated paint protection film (PPF) features a self-healing ability, allowing light scratches to be removed using hot water or a heat gun on the affected area. Note that if a scratch penetrates the topcoat, it will not self-heal. Automated car washes increase the likelihood of surface scratches penetrating the topcoat — this is a characteristic of any top-coated PPF.

The HYDROphobe® topcoat of STEK-US products creates a water-beading effect for easy maintenance and self-cleaning. We recommend drying the water beads off the film after rain or washing, especially in warm weather or sunlight, to prevent water spotting.

The melting point of TPU (PPF) is 175°C (347°F).

Best Practices for Caring for STEK Paint Protection Films

STEK strongly recommends following these guidelines to achieve the best performance and durability from your paint protection films.

How do I wash STEK?
Hand wash using a “Ceramic Coating” friendly shampoo such as STEK Shampoo. Rinseless washes are also safe to use.

How do I dry STEK?
Use a microfiber drying towel or chamois for best results.

How do I clean (clay) STEK?
Avoid using clay bars, as they can mar the finish, get caught on edges, and cause discoloration. The main contaminants that can harm your PPF are road tar and iron oxide. We recommend using STEK Tar and STEK Iron for safe and effective decontamination.

How do I polish (wax) STEK?
Use STEK Finish, a premium sealant that restores gloss and hydrophobicity. There is no need to polish STEK regularly. For major issues like water spotting, contact us — our professional-only polish, STEK Fusion, can resolve such problems.

What specific products should be used to maintain STEK?
Treat STEK like a “Ceramic Coating” and only use ceramic-coating-friendly maintenance products.

What products should I NOT use to maintain STEK?
Do not use detergents that contain waxes, sealants, or silicone.

Maintaining STEK DYNOflex Windshield Film

The following best practices will help you care for your STEK top-coated thermal polyurethane (TPU) windshield protection film and ensure the best performance.

How do I maintain DYNOflex?
Apply STEK Formula 19 CURE once a month as directed. Clean the surface weekly using STEK Formula 14 FUSION or a ceramic-coating-friendly shampoo. This maintenance schedule helps maximize the film’s lifespan.

You can also mix CURE with your washer fluid (2:100 or 3:100 ratio) — roughly one bottle cap per washer reservoir.

Always keep the surface clean, especially after rain or snow. Remove any ice or snow before using wipers to prevent film damage.

Clean contaminants like bird droppings, bug spatter, or dirty washer fluid immediately to avoid staining.

Replace worn or silicone-coated wiper blades as needed. We recommend BOSCH, PIAA, or Rain-X blades.

Avoid using wipers on a dry windshield surface.

How do I wash DYNOflex?
Clean using conventional glass cleaning solutions, but avoid any ammonia-based or corrosive products. Always use soft cloths, sponges, or squeegees.

How do I dry DYNOflex?
Use a clean, soft cloth or a soft rubber squeegee to safely dry the film’s surface.

How do I polish (wax) DYNOflex?
STEK Formula 14 FUSION can restore gloss and hydrophobicity but should be applied by a professional only. Contact us for help if any major issue arises.

What other products can be used to maintain DYNOflex?
Treat it the same way you would a ceramic coating — using only compatible products.

What products should I NOT use to maintain DYNOflex?
Do not use detergents containing waxes, sealants, or silicone.
